Apple Car expected in 2025, likely to be fully autonomous

The key is Machine Learning, price tag gets very high

In recent years there have been several rumors about Apple’s mysterious Apple Car project. According to Bloomberg, Apple will launch its first consumer car within the next five years, likely in 2025.

This self-driving car is fully electric and uses a revolutionary battery, which drastically increases the range. Initially, a collaboration with Kia and Hyundai was confirmed, but that was later confirmed debunked. Still, the Apple Car project is gaining credibility.

First Apple car possible in 2025

Last year spoke to Reuters news agency with anonymous sources involved in the development of the Apple vehicle. It has been rumored for some time that Apple is developing a self-driving car. Several ‘prototypes’ have already appeared on the road in the past. We have not yet seen a specific model, but we have already seen a car equipped with new techniques.

Concept: motorcycle trend

According to Reuters, the intention is that the car will be on the market within four years, possibly in 2024. However, other sources contradict this. For example, Hankyung suggests that a possible Apple Car could not be introduced until 2027, Bloomberg says that the car could be expected in 2025.

Apple Car suitable for consumers

Apple’s first car is intended for consumers and uses, among other things, LiDAR scanners. This advanced technology is already used in the iPhone 12 Pro, iPad Pro and by NASA. The space agency will use the LiDAR technology for its next mission to Mars, among other things.

Like the iPhone 12 Pro, the Apple Car will use the scanner to map the environment. The LiDAR determines absolute depth by measuring how long invisible light rays travel from transmitter to object and then back to the receiver. The Apple Car uses these sensors to scan the environment and measure distances. Thanks to these sensors, the car can determine its location in relation to other road users and objects.

Revolutionary battery

According to Reuters, Apple is also working on a new type of battery for its own car. This ‘mono-cell battery’ takes up less space than with current electric cars, but it does have a higher capacity. This results in a greater range and better performance. Details about the range of the Apple car are not yet known, but the news agency does indicate that monocell batteries are relatively cheap to produce. That in turn is beneficial for the consumer.

Earlier this year Toyota already announced that they will be launching a new prototype this year, a so-called ‘Solid state battery’. This battery should ensure that you can drive 1000 kilometers and that it is also fully charged in 10 minutes. Cars with this technology are expected in 2022-2023.

Fully autonomous: no driver required

Kevin Lynch has always been the software boss of the Apple Watch, but has now joined the Apple Car team. According to Bloomberg reports, Apple has been working on two different projects in recent years: a semi-autonomous car, such as Tesla, and a fully autonomous car. Lynch would now have made the decision, so that the team is now fully focusing on an autonomous car.

As a result, the electric car works completely without a driver and is equipped with the most modern techniques. It was previously announced that Apple has acquired several start-ups, including, which specialized in software for autonomous vehicles. In addition, they have also acquired Quanta, a manufacturer of self-driving cars.
