Sydney residents advised to fast track second AstraZeneca shot

New South Wales Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant says there were a record number of tests done in the last 24 hours which picked up 207 cases of COVID with many infectious in the community.

“We are still seeing a large number of people infectious in community and they are leading to infections in workplaces and they are also leading to infection in other settings,” she said.

“It is critical that every time we move about we assume that someone near us is infectious with COVID.”

Dr Chant said people who had received one AstraZeneca jab could receive the second one if they had waited four weeks to increase vaccine protection.

“There is an opportunity to bring forward your doses, your second doses of AstraZeneca to afford that protection.

“Anyone who has had an AstraZeneca shot with a spacing of four weeks, come forward and get vaccinated.”
